FAQ
Help!!!! I was just building some magical meadows for my upcoming wareware game “DOGGOS WHIMSICAL MEADOW ADVENTURE” but my finger slipped and I filled the whole screen with random blocks!! Is there a way to UNDO things?
wareware has no undo-feature (yet). Think of your mistakes as happy accidents—maybe they’ll turn into something you’ve never planned like huge haunted mansions! (Tip: you can right-click to delete blocks.)
Okay…now I have a haunted mansion and I’ve put down some scary monsters. How do I make them talk?
Select the character sprite and click Add Action on the right. If you want to make them talk, you can add a Message action. But you could also put them on your head with the aptly named Put on Head action!
I want to build a winding staircase to the second floor of the mansion, but the ramps just go in one direction. Is there a way to rotate them?
Yes! Press R on your keyboard!
I love the cute doggo, but they no longer fit my vision of an x-rated survival horror haunted house game. How do I change the character sprite into “MISTY THE BLOOD THIRSTY GHOST MISTRESS”?
Go to Save and Export in the top right. Under Game Start Options you can set actions that trigger when someone starts your game. Choose the Change Chara action and assign Misty’s idle and walking animations.
I want the monsters to wiggle and shiver like real monsters do, but I don’t know how to import animations.
Yeah, that’s a bit tricky for now. Sprites or tiles are automatically split into spritesheets if their width is a multiple of their height (so e.g. 32 x 16 px would be split into two 16 x 16 frames and so on).
Tip: Aseprite has a great animation tool and can export wareware-ready spritesheets!
WOW! That’s some serious AAA technology! I think I’ve got a hit on my hands here! Am I allowed to put the finished game on Steam and charge 79.99$ for it?
You can publish anything you create with wareware however you want. A commercial release is fully okay! Of course, we’d be happy if you send us your creations and tell your friends about wareware! But please don’t use it for hateful, racist, terfy, ableist or other discriminatory bs.
Sure! For the showdown of my game “MISTY THE BLOOD THIRSTY GHOST MISTRESS IN: CURSE OF THE HAUNTED MONSTER MANSION” I want to create a jumpscare. I’m imagining a scary face popping up and a sound file of me shouting “BOO!”… but that’s probably too advanced for a silly little game maker like wareware, right?
Wrong! Just click Assets in the top right corner and upload the image and sound. Then use Add Action from any sprite to trigger them. Instant jumpscare!
Cool! I played my finished game and scared myself so much that I accidentally closed the browser window. Now my game is gone! Is there any way to get it back?
Unfortunately not. Please save your progress regularly until we add an autosave feature.
Nooooooooooooooo! 😩😩😩
